First Big Pike Of 2011 For Mick Brown

Mick Brown with pike re sizeIt has been a slow start to the year for most predator anglers with time on the bank restricted due to the harsh winter but Dynamite's Mick Brown looks to have put the cold period behind him with the capture of this perfect condition 25lb 2oz pike.

"I started my winter campaign on November 25th with a fish of 20lb13oz first time out. Since then, the cold weather has meant that I couldn't get on a stillwater again untill January 14th when I managed just one 13lb fish.

"The fishing has been quite tough as the water temperature is still low and the pike are very unresponsive. I had a couple of big pike follow lures to the boat but it was obvious they weren't going to take them," explained Mick.

With the fish reluctant to take lures, Mick decided a change of approach was in order and put a deadbait rod out to sit it out and wait while he persisted with his lure rod.

A couple of jacks were all he had to show for a lot of casting but then, as the sun set late in the afternoon, his popped-up Dynamite Baits Herring was away and instantly he knew he was into a decent fish.

"Considering how cold the water was, it fought really well in the shallow water, and made a hell of a disturbance before begrudgingly coming to the net. At 25 lb 2oz, my winter campaign had been kick started again!

"I'm hoping to get another shot at the water soon to try for a bigger fish which had followed my lure," added Mick.
