Tie The Perfect PVA Bag

When it goes cold on commercial fisheries there is only one method that can be relied on to put a carp on the bank, 'The Teabag'. Match ace Rob Wootton shows you how to tie the perfect PVA bag to be fished in conjunction with a straight lead approach...
PVA has revolutionised the angling world. It started in the carp world but before long match anglers realised the benefits that it had to offer and nowadays seeing it on the banks of your local commercial fishery is nothing out of the ordinary.
The most common usage of PVA in the match fishing world is for making small mesh-type 'tea-bag' sized bags of bait to attach to your hook and cast out. When the waters cooler it out fishes the Method feeder as you can place a much smaller amount of bait right next to your hook bait, very discreetly.
"Getting the bag tied correctly is very important as having the bag quite tight around the pellets will force the bag to ‘explode’ as the PVA melts. This spreads the bait out over a marginally bigger area and I feel this is better than a small pile of bait.
"Pellets are a great bait to put into PVA but don’t be rigid with the bait choice. I’ve had great success using liquidised bread, crushed boilies and groundbait in a PVA bag. As long as it doesn’t melt the PVA bag you’ll be able to use it.
"You can even boost the bag by soaking it in a Liquid Attractant, make sure the liquid is oil-based such as Dynamite's Robin Red Liquid or a winter favourite of many carp anglers like Dynamite Chocolate Malt & Tiger Nut," explained Rob.
Here is how to tie the perfect match-sized PVA bag:
Step 1 - Measure out the required amount of XL Carp Pellets and tip them into the PVA funnel. Rob uses a Toss Pot to measure the quantity.
Step 2 - Force the pellets to the end of the PVA so that the PVA mesh is tight.
Step 3 - Twist the mesh above the bag to temporary keep it tight.
Step 4 - Form an overhand knot in the PVA mesh and tighten it down so the bag remains tight.
Step 5 - Tie another overhand knot just above the first one and cut the PVA between them to leave the PVA funnel ready for the next bag.
Step 6 - Attach your hook to the bag by hooking the mesh in the middle, away from the knots, and twisting the hook 180-degrees before hooking it again.
