Caro Brothers Take On Rainbow Lake

The Caro brothers, Emir and Nermin, are two of the best carp anglers in Europe and have a reputation for catching some massive fish. Here is Emir's report from a recent trip to Rainbow Lake, France where they targetted the venue's giants...

"Last year Nermin and I made plans for a trip to the famous Rainbow Lake. It was very hard for us to find a date as you have to book so far in advance but luckily there was a cancellation at the end of August with pegs 16 and 18 being available so we decided to give those a try.

It was very hot when we met our good friends Kristof Cuderman and Daan Vermeulen. Nermin and Kristof decided to fish together at peg 18 so Daan and I went to peg 16. We weren´t really prepaired for the hot weather down in France and there were no trees or forms of shade to offer any protection.

Just a couple of fish had been caught the week before we arrived at the lake and peg 18 seemed to be much more productive then peg 16 over the last few weeks.

This suspicion was quickly confirmed - Nermin and Kristof consistently caught some fish while Daan and I just had one take in four days. We decided a move was in order to try and make the most of the time we had left and we managed to get in to peg 17, close to the peg 18.

The one downside was that there were a lot of obstacles in front of us. We cleaned some areas of branches and tried our best but it was still pretty horrible. We lost three fish, all went directly into the snags but on our penultimate morning there I managed to catch my first Rainbow carp.

It was an immaculate looking 48lb common. It fell for a 15mm Robin Red Pop-up combined with a 15mm Robin Red bottom bait, soaked in Robin Red Hookbait Dip and fished over half a kilo of the new Robin Red 8mm Pellets.

On the last morning I also managed to catch a 39lb mirror. It was great because i didn´t blank although I felt so sorry for my mate Daan as he had no luck on his first Rainbow trip. Next time my friend!

Nermin and Kristof did well. They had a couple of fish up to 56.7 lbs. So it was not too bad for our first time at Rainbow Lake!!!! "
