54lb 8oz on the Monster Tigernut!

I had been targeting the Essex manor on an off for the past 5 years, and while I have caught some nice fish over this time, the big girl had eluded me. This season I had done 15 blank nights, although I had lost a couple of fish on my last trip, I managed to get down for a quick overnighter before having to shoot off for work early in the morning.

I arrived around 6pm and decided to fish a swim known as ‘The Pump’. The wind was blowing nicely into this corner and I felt sure there were fish around. I found three nice spots and baited with Dynamite Baits Monster Tigernut 15mm popups. I also catapulted a kilo of 15mm Dynamite Monster Tigernut boilies around the three hookbaits and sat back to see what occurred.

Just before dark a friend and head Baliff Jon Miller arrived to see how I was getting on. As we sat there, a big mirror came out of the water to its tail and I knew straight away it was the big girl. I text my girlfriend saying that the big girl had shown in my area and I felt close to her tonight an Jon went on his way and wished me luck.

I settled down for the night and must have off dozed off when I was awoken by my middle rod bursting into life. As I glanced at my watch it was 3am and after a spirited fight I netted a fish. I then got my scales together and went to lift the net out of the water… it wouldn’t move! I thought I’d snagged the net so investigated further and to my amazement it was the big girl! My legs went to jelly at this point as my dream was being fulfilled. I had a second look just to make sure it was her and realised I was not dreaming! I managed to pull her onto my mat and we weighed her at 54lb 8oz… I was over the moon! The weight was immaterial as any of you will agree when you catch your target fish.
