Dynamite's Jon Wake Wins The Ivan Marks Memorial Match

The 4th annual Ivan Marks Memorial Match took place over the 24th and 25th of May 2008 at the magnificent Mallory Park Fisheries in Leicestershire, however the weather did try to spoil things with a strong north easterly wind making conditions very difficult for many of the anglers on both days. On the Saturday the more sheltered Foundation Lake was the lake to be on, with six weights over 100lb. Top weight on the foundation went to Dynamite Baits’ Jon Wake with 169lb 3oz followed by Leicester’s Max Higgot 142lb and Andrew Pickersgill (Dynamite Baits) 138lb. The awful weather continued onto the Sunday, this time with heavy rain throughout the match again making fishing very difficult for many of the anglers. Dan Hull came out on top with 164lb from a sheltered end peg on Pool 4, catching his fish at 13m and 14.5m down the edge on corn and pellet. Second place went to Dave Hunter from Pool 3 with 133lb, and third was Chris Allen with 124lb from Pool 1. The overall winner and recipient of the Ivan Marks trophy was Dynamite’s Jon Wake with 169lb 3oz from Day 1. Dynamites Jon Wake Takes The Win

" I’m delighted to have won such an event and it is a great achievement, I don’t fish up at The Glebe too often but when I drew peg 26 on the Foundation Lake I knew I had half a chance as there were some big weights off the lake the day before. Walking round to my peg it was clear that the fish had finished spawning and would more than likely feed. I planned to start on the paste feeder while feeding hemp and corn on the pole at 6 metres and down the edge to where I had an over- hanging bush, however there were already fish down the edge so I didn’t bother to chuck the feeder. I was into fish straight away with 20 fish coming to the net in the first hour, as the match progressed the fish became a bit cagey and backed off, in the last 2 hours I only put 6 fish in the net and thought that my chances were over as I could see people catching well on the other bank but fortunately I had done enough in that first hour. All in all it has been another great event and a big thanks should go to Roy Marlow and his fishery staff for the smooth running of the event over the two days".
